Global curricula and free learning

Reviewed 4 October 2026. Nine selected course or programme outlines across six institutions, plus one platform access policy. This supplements the legacy institution directory; it does not make that directory a verified syllabus corpus.

Choose evidence before choosing a course

A university curriculum tells you what a programme organises and assesses. An open course supplies material you can study. A certificate describes an achievement under stated conditions. These are different objects. A public programme page can inspire your independent study without supplying lectures, marking or admission to the programme. Begin by asking what you need: an explanation, a practical exercise, examination preparation or a formal credential.

For each entry below, inspect the evidence type before following the link. Archived syllabi preserve a particular offering. Their conceptual value can remain strong while software versions, assessments and programme requirements change. A short course can clarify one topic without replacing a degree sequence. Our links into Amit’s Library are study recommendations, not university endorsements or claims of equivalent credit.

Build a business and computing sequence

Start with a decision that matters to a small organisation: whether to accept more orders, buy stock or automate a handoff. Business study supplies the objective, customer promise, costs and responsibilities. Computing study supplies representations, validation, storage and repeatable procedures. The intersection requires both: a technically correct calculation can optimise the wrong objective, while a sound managerial intention can fail because records are inconsistent.

Use operations study to describe the process before automating it. Use statistics to distinguish a small sample from reliable evidence. Use programming to turn a clearly stated rule into a testable function. Use databases to keep facts and relationships consistent. Return to the business decision and explain the limitations in ordinary language. This sequence encourages useful understanding rather than collecting unrelated course completions.

A shared practice case

Imagine a retailer accepting orders through a form. Sales promises delivery, operations checks stock, finance records payment and customer support handles returns. Draw the handoffs. Decide who can approve an order, whose record is authoritative, what counts as a duplicate and when an unresolved payment should be escalated. Ask where personal information travels and why each department needs it. Compare which controls prevent errors with how remaining errors are detected.

Now create a small synthetic dataset. Deliberately include a duplicate, an invalid quantity and a return. State the expected totals before writing code. Keep money in consistent units. Test validation separately from aggregation. Explain whether the result is revenue, cash received or profit; those measures cannot be exchanged casually. Investigate a wrong total by tracing the source record and the transformation rather than merely changing the chart.

Finally write a managerial recommendation. Include the objective, evidence, alternatives, uncertainty and responsible owner. Explain the human work that remains: handling exceptions, consulting affected staff and deciding whether the customer promise is reasonable. The computer can accelerate a procedure, but someone must justify the procedure and monitor its consequences.

Study, test and revisit

At foundation level, explain a concept and identify a simple example. At undergraduate level, solve a bounded problem and show your steps. At postgraduate level, compare methods and defend assumptions. At research level, frame a question, choose evidence and explain the contribution and limitations. These are study prompts; advanced content is still being developed across the Library.

After reading, attempt the linked Library activity before reviewing an answer. Keep a note of one misconception and one unresolved question. Revisit the task later with a changed assumption. A useful portfolio contains working evidence and thoughtful explanations, not just screenshots of certificates. Budget separately for any credential: free learning material does not establish free examination, tutoring or certification.

MIT: Data, Models, and Decisions — Fall 2014

Evidence: Archived graduate syllabus

Read the official outline

Access: OCW shares course materials openly. The required textbook is separately listed; its free availability was not established.

Review boundary: An archived offering, not verification of present MIT degree requirements.

Our original study task

Build a demand scenario table for a small retailer. Compare expected contribution with shortage risk. Write a decision memo explaining which assumptions could change the recommendation, then identify the data needed to test them.

MIT: Introduction to Computer Science and Programming in Python — Fall 2016

Evidence: Archived undergraduate syllabus

Read the official outline

Access: Lecture videos, slides/code and problem sets are linked. Quizzes and finger exercises are not available on OCW; textbook access is separate.

Review boundary: The offering used Python 3.5. Check contemporary documentation when running archived code.

Our original study task

Write a function that validates a transaction record before calculating its value. Test empty input, negative quantities and invalid numbers. Explain why a program that runs without crashing can still produce a wrong business result.

Harvard: CS50x

Evidence: Course syllabus

Read the official outline

Access: The course is free to take. A free CS50 certificate requires at least 70% on each problem set and the final project; see the separate certificate page.

Review boundary: A course certificate is not a degree. Separate verified-certificate arrangements are not evaluated here.

Our original study task

Develop a small order-recording application. Separate validation, storage and presentation. Record a threat model, test duplicate submissions, and show how a user can correct an error without silently destroying the original record.

The Open University: Understanding operations management

Evidence: Short-course outline

Read the official outline

Access: Free learning content; provider estimate: four hours, Level 3 Advanced. A free account enables progress, activities and a statement of participation.

Review boundary: Provider level and duration describe this short course, not a complete operations curriculum or degree credit.

Our original study task

Map an enquiry-to-delivery process. Mark information inputs, physical inputs, outputs and feedback. Identify one boundary where another department receives incomplete information. Propose a measurable handoff improvement and a way to detect unintended delay elsewhere.

University of Pennsylvania — Wharton: MBA curriculum

Evidence: Public programme structure

Read the official outline

Access: The curriculum description is publicly readable. This is not a free MBA or a verified free course offering.

Review boundary: Selected programme structure was reviewed; individual elective syllabi and enrolment conditions were not.

Our original study task

Create a cross-functional expansion proposal: customer evidence, unit economics, staffing, operational capacity and ethical risks. Give each department a decision and an accountable owner. Explain why a favourable financial projection alone cannot establish that the expansion is feasible.

IIT Madras: Data Science and Applications academics

Evidence: Public programme structure

Read the official outline

Access: The academic outline is public. Registered courses have fees, and online coursework includes in-person invigilated assessments. Do not treat the programme as a free MOOC.

Review boundary: Foundation prerequisites and selected course tables were reviewed; this is not an audit of every module.

Our original study task

Design a staged data project: validate source records, model a database, calculate descriptive measures, and only then attempt prediction. Document what a manager can infer at each stage and which conclusions require stronger evidence.

Official historical syllabus · Open network-effects lecture

Selected OCW material is publicly accessible; not every assigned external reading was checked. This supplies neither enrolment nor credit and does not establish current degree requirements.

The following remain unresolved in this pass, rather than counted as reviewed:

Next: review individual Indian and international course syllabi, deepen subject-specific resource links, then deepen assessments and applications. Foundation teaching is present across the chapter inventory; exhaustive syllabus coverage remains pending.
